Louis de Grange Defends Truck Scanning Initiative, Sparks Online Reminders of Boric’s Administration

The Minister of Transport and Public Works, Louis de Grange, is at the center of controversy after boasting on social media about the truck scanning program underway at the Los Libertadores Border Crossing in the Valparaíso region. This prompted some netizens to remind him that the equipment used for this operation was acquired during the administration of former President Gabriel Boric.

The main land corridor between Chile and Argentina had been closed for 34 days due to heavy snowfall and adverse weather conditions affecting both countries, finally reopening at 8:00 AM yesterday.

Since then, there has been a significant increase in truck traffic from both sides of the border, with many waiting for the passage to open.

Using his account on the social media platform X, De Grange shared a video showing freight vehicles undergoing X-ray inspections as part of customs checks at the borders.

However, the footage led to many users clarifying and reminding the State Secretary that the modern X-ray inspection trucks were not procured by José Antonio Kast’s administration, but by Boric’s, with some thanking him for having «invested in security».

«The Only Positive Thing They Have to Show Is Boric’s Work»

“The only positive thing they have to show is Boric’s work,” remarked one user, while others referenced a press release published on January 13, 2026, reporting that with an investment of $6.4 billion, the National Customs Service had received two new scanning trucks acquired as part of the National Plan Against Organized Crime (PNCO).

With the operation of this equipment, Boric’s administration enhanced the enforcement capabilities for foreign trade and control against smuggling and organized crime.

Among the comments, one user highlighted the efforts of Juan Carlos Muñoz, as Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, and the acquisition of the scanning trucks during Gabriel Boric’s presidency.

«Thank you so much @JuanCaMunozA (Juan Carlos Muñoz) for the scanning trucks, you have no idea how much we miss you, with you we maintained an excellent public transport system, unlike now, which is terrible,» the user commented.
