Manuel Adorni Resigns: Luxury Scandals and Allegations of Illicit Enrichment Cost Him His Position as Chief of Cabinet

Manuel Adorni resigned on Saturday, June 27, 2026, as Chief of Cabinet under Javier Milei, following months of controversies involving allegations of illicit enrichment, use of the presidential plane for personal trips, and luxury purchases that tarnished the government’s image and sank its poll numbers. This was reported by Argentine media.

The controversy began on March 9, 2026, when a photo surfaced showing Adorni with his wife, Bettina Angeletti, in a cemetery in Queens during one of Milei’s trips to New York. She had flown on the presidential jet, despite Adorni’s earlier promises that the government would end political privileges. «I wanted her to accompany me because I’m here for a week to work hard,» Adorni attempted to justify himself, according to a report by Página 12, in an article by Manuela Tobía.

From that point, a series of revelations emerged: private jet trips to Punta del Este, a family vacation in Aruba costing around 15 thousand dollars, and a trip taken by his wife with friends to Europe and Iguazu Falls, all paid for in cash. Additionally, it was revealed that he had purchased a house in the Indio Cuá Golf Club for 245 thousand dollars, which underwent costly renovations, including heated swimming pools with waterfalls, as well as an apartment in the Caballito neighborhood acquired with the help of two retirees who later denied knowing him in court, as reported by Perfil.com.

Federal prosecutor Gerardo Pollicita initiated an investigation into illicit enrichment. Adorni submitted his asset declaration late and provided explanations that drew further criticism: he claimed to have found a USB drive containing 500 thousand dollars in Bitcoin from the Kirchner administrations and insisted that his income was derived from undeclared savings. «With my money, I do what I want,» he had said to journalist Jon Heguier from El Destape, referring to him as «just a journalist.»

The investigation also extended to his brother Francisco Adorni, a legislator in Buenos Aires from La Libertad Avanza, who is implicated in alleged illicit enrichment and money laundering. Former libertarian congresswoman Marcela Pagano and lawyer Gregorio Dalbón filed criminal complaints against the now former official. Judge Daniel Rafecas closed the investigation regarding the trip to New York, but Pollicita’s case continues to advance, according to reports from Noticias Argentinas.

Milei, who had previously told journalists Luis Majul and Esteban Trebucq that «no way is Adorni leaving,» finally met with him at the Quinta de Olivos on Saturday and accepted his resignation. The President’s Chief of Staff, Karina Milei, and advisor Santiago Caputo are already planning a new organizational structure, likely to include Diego Santilli as the new Chief of Cabinet. Adorni, who aspired to run for Mayor of Buenos Aires in 2027, thus concludes what is described as a “pathetic political career,” as noted by Página 12.
