On May 24, Chile celebrates National Hot Dog Day, a tribute to one of the country’s most beloved culinary icons.
The hot dog, traditionally made with bread, sausage, avocado, tomato, mayonnaise, and other toppings, is a fundamental part of Chilean popular culture. Today, it’s possible to savor 100% plant-based versions that are just as delicious and accessible to everyone.
In this context, Veganuary, the NGO leading the global Vegan January initiative, has gathered data from across the country to promote a comprehensive guide known as the «National Vegan Hot Dog Route,» highlighting the promotions and discounts from vegan restaurants and enterprises that demonstrate how tradition and innovation can coexist.
«We want to invite everyone to celebrate National Hot Dog Day with the vegan hot dog route we’ve prepared at Veganuary, so they can enjoy plant-based options that uphold Chilean tradition while promoting a more sustainable and compassionate way of eating,» said Mauricio Serrano, director of Veganuary Latin America.
In total, over 25 vegan establishments are joining this celebration, presenting innovative alternatives that replace traditional sausages with plant-based options like vegan sausages, tofu, or seitan, complemented by the classic Chilean ingredients.
The route features iconic restaurants in Santiago, as well as in the north and south of the country, all committed to providing environmentally friendly menus suitable for all tastes.
«Today, thanks to the creativity of entrepreneurs and restaurants, tasty 100% plant-based hot dogs can be found throughout Chile,» highlighted Mauricio Serrano.
The complete guide is available for free download on Veganuary’s website, or directly here.
