In a widely discussed post on social media platform X, Maipú Mayor Tomás Vodanovic stated that the cross-party proposal from mayors to limit the tax collection to individuals over 65 years old, owning homes valued above 250 million pesos and earning an average monthly income exceeding 3 million pesos, «was outright rejected by the Ministry of Finance.»
According to Vodanovic, the government suggested that «regardless of income, no one will pay this property tax.»
«At the same time, they propose making the payment of waste disposal fees (which are covered by low-income individuals) mandatory in order to obtain vehicle circulation permits. This aims to benefit the wealthiest in society while tightening the screw on those with less,» questioned the municipal leader of Maipú.
«We hope to reach an agreement in the Senate that protects the middle class amidst this economic crisis that is hitting them hard,» emphasized Mayor Vodanovic.
