Less than a month after stepping down as the Minister of Sport, Natalia Ducó has rejoined the government, becoming part of the President’s advisory team, commonly referred to as «the second floor» of La Moneda.
Naturally, the announcement prompted immediate reactions, especially given that only 24 days earlier, the former athlete left José A. Kast’s cabinet amid controversy over her use of a government vehicle during a non-official event, as highlighted in a complaint filed with the Contraloría and a video that quickly went viral.
Now, the Interior Undersecretary, Máximo Pavez, briefly explained from La Moneda Ducó’s new role in the government: «She will join as an advisor on public policy, aimed at contributing to the development of initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Sport.»
Meanwhile, the Minister of Sport, Francisco Riveros, «welcomed» Ducó back, stating that «she has made a significant contribution to national sports, and it is valuable for her to assist in sports matters within the presidential cabinet’s second floor.»
On social media, Ducó’s name trended throughout the day. On X, user @LaNiseMariela remarked: «A former minister who misused her political position is now seated on the second floor of La Moneda. What political favors does Natalia Ducó owe?»
Meanwhile, attorney Paulina Astroza expressed that Ducó’s return to the government «is a joke to everyone. How many people work on the Second Floor? Are they needed? Are they recycling positions?» she questioned.
