The National Energy Commission (CNE) has announced a new increase in electricity rates, effective July 1, 2026, with a national average hike of 4.9%.

According to a report by Radio ADN, the CNE indicated that this figure will vary depending on the distribution company, geographic area, and the consumption level of each client.

In statements to the aforementioned station, acting Executive Secretary of the CNE, Mauricio Funes, explained that the increase is due to «primarily two factors: first, the electricity generation component will rise by 2.1%, and secondly, the electricity transmission charge will see an increase of 2.8%.»

«As a result of the combination of both factors, the CNE has preliminarily projected that the overall impact on electricity rates will result in an average increase of 4.9% nationwide,» Funes specified, noting that only the generation component has a definitive report, while the transmission figure corresponds to a preliminary technical report.

«Therefore, the final values for this segment may experience minor adjustments before the issuance of the definitive report in June, during which the tariff structure for the second half of the year will be consolidated,» the Radio ADN report emphasizes.
