Violent Attack at Ancud Bookstore Targets Cultural Manager
A violent incident at the «El Gran Pez» bookstore in Ancud, reported by El Ciudadano (March 31, 2026), has entered a new judicial phase following a criminal complaint for attempted homicide against Godofredo Rodríguez Pacheco.
The victim, writer and cultural manager Ricardo Tamayo Ruiz, described how the assailant smashed the storefront windows of his bookstore with a pickaxe, then attempted to strike him directly in the head and chest. According to the legal documents, these events are part of a series of prior threats, indicating a pattern of sustained violence.
Legal Action: Threats and Intent to Kill
The court filing alleges charges of threats, property damage, and attempted homicide, aggravated by ideological motivations. It claims that Rodríguez had previously confronted Tamayo over the content of the books, repeatedly warning him: «You are dead.»
On the day of the attack, after breaking the shop’s windows, the assailant attempted to hit the victim with a blunt object in vital areas, which, according to the complaint, demonstrates an intent to kill. The document stresses the victim’s justified fear given the ongoing violent behavior and the fact that the accused remains at large.
History of Nazi Ideology and Conflicts
This case revives well-documented background by El Ciudadano (November 19, 2019), linking Rodríguez to the establishment of a so-called “School of Arts President Augusto Pinochet Ugarte” in Ancud, inspired by Nazi principles.
During the social outbreak, he infiltrated community assemblies, creating conflicts due to his «arrogant and aggressive» behavior, as reported by local organizations. These groups even urged the prevention of participation by individuals promoting ideologies contrary to human rights.
Prior Arrests and Criminal Background
Rodríguez has a record of prior arrests. According to Radio Bío Bío on March 18, 2014, he was detained by the PDI for an outstanding robbery case but was later released by judicial order.
«His arrest was due to a pending case for the theft of documents from a fishing organization in Puerto Aysén. The detainee was taken to the local hospital for injury assessment and then to the police station, where he was released by order of the Court of Guarantee of Puerto Aysén,» reported Radio Bío Bío.
Later that year, Soy Chile.Cl detailed that the arrest order stemmed from an offense committed in 1998. Press records also show legal issues related to marijuana cultivation. According to a PDI official’s account, «the detention of this individual who had an outstanding arrest warrant for robbery was accomplished.»
Shortly afterward, «the director of the controversial Nazi Art School was returned to the PDI station to be released by express instruction of the Court of Letters of Aysén.»
Declared Ideology and Political Project
In interviews from that period, such as one published by Vice (2014), Rodríguez openly advocated for his ideological project, stating he aimed to «reinterpret Nazism» and create a political «resistance» from the right. He described his school’s participants as «former members of the Carabineros de Chile [police], whether retired or dismissed from the institution for various reasons, and also elderly people still capable of processing texts.»
He also expressed intentions to form a nationalist political party based in Chiloé, highlighting a doctrinal line considered crucial to understanding the background of the reported attack.
Among the authors he emphasized were «René Guénon, a French figure that every neonazi should know; Joseph Goebbels, who was the main speaker of the Third Reich,» stated Godofredo Rodríguez Pacheco.
Escalating Violence and Local Concern
The current case has raised concern in the Ancud community, not only due to the violent nature of the attack but also because of the recurrence of aggressive behaviors associated with the accused. The complaint warns of a «erratic and uncontrolled» behavior that increases the risk of further incidents.
Additionally, the impact on the local cultural ecosystem is underscored, as «El Gran Pez» is the only bookstore in the city and a key space for Chiloé’s cultural life.
