The statistics are clear and convey a message that the Casa Rosada can no longer ignore: the «chainsaw» is being returned. Rejection of Javier Milei’s administration has climbed to 62%, according to the latest study conducted by the University of San Andrés, while the consulting firm Giacobbe & Asociados recorded a negative approval rating of 56.9%, the highest level since the far-right leader took office in December 2023.

In tandem, more than 60% of Argentinians surveyed expressed pessimism about the economic direction of the southern nation.

According to El Destape, these results create a political climate where the government’s hopes for a re-election in 2027 appear increasingly unlikely and seem to depend more on winning in the first round, given that the chances of altering such a negative perception drastically diminish in a potential runoff.

The wear and tear of the so-called «libertarian» government is not an isolated or temporary phenomenon, but is linked to the lack of jobs, low wages, and rising poverty.

While Milei’s administration managed to halt the steep decline of its image in the early months of the year, polls reveal that support remains fragile and rejection continues to grow. The slight improvement in positive perception—reaching 37.5% according to Giacobbe—proves insufficient to offset the depth of discontent among the populace.

The scandal surrounding the financial disclosures of former Chief of Cabinet, Manuel Adorni, has damaged the government’s credibility, but the true Achilles’ heel of the administration is the economy, a field where negative perceptions multiply.

Economic pessimism is overwhelming: 63.4% of respondents believe that the situation is worsening or stagnant. Only 16.6% assert that the economy is improving and that they perceive it in their wallets, while another 19% claim to see positive signs, though they do not yet experience them in daily life.

The UdeSA study provides an additional alarming detail for the ruling party: the approval of the far-right leader has dropped to 34%, while rejection has reached 62%, a point higher than the previous month. The most significant drop occurred among lower-income sectors, where support fell to 29%, highlighting that the most vulnerable are those who trust the least that the economic direction will benefit them.

According to the survey, the issues that concern Argentinians the most are related to the economic sector. Unemployment (38%), low wages (35%), and poverty (27%) account for three of the top four concerns among citizens. Inflation, long the primary worry, has slipped to seventh place with 17%, overtaken by unemployment and corruption, both sharing the top spot at 38%. The political fallout from the Adorni case, which continues to reveal new information, has eroded public trust during a time when the economy offers no comfort.

As reported by El Destape, the electoral landscape is equally complicated for the ruling party. Voter intention places Peronism in first place with 25%, followed closely by La Libertad Avanza at 24%. However, the most pertinent detail is the high level of undecided voters: 22% are still unsure who they will vote for, and another 5% prefer not to answer.

Thus, Javier Milei’s government faces a crossroads: the chainsaw promised to trim the state appears to be turning against its own architects, with social discontent fueled by job scarcity, low wages, and poverty becoming a structural factor that no official rhetoric can dispel. With rejection at an all-time high and the economy seen as an unsolvable issue, the ultrarightist’s chances for re-election dwindle increasingly.
