Original article: “Soy militante de RN”: presidente del club de Olmué desmiente a Olivares y recalca que “nunca se le gritaron consignas políticas”
Claudio Gutiérrez, president of the Montevideo Sports Club in the municipality of Olmué, provided a detailed rebuttal to the statements made by Deputy Javier Olivares (PDG) regarding a scuffle that occurred during the celebration of the club’s 53rd anniversary in the Valparaíso region.
The club leader, who identified himself as a member of Renovación Nacional (RN), emphasized that “no political slogans were shouted at Olivares,” countering the deputy’s claim that he was assaulted by an event attendee who allegedly shouted, “the left always lives on.”
“The deputy attended the party, but he was not invited. He claims he was assaulted and that political slogans were shouted against him, but that is false. Political slogans were never shouted. I have to be honest: I am a member of Renovación Nacional,” Gutiérrez stated in an interview with Radio ADN.
“He claimed this was a political incident, but it was not political; it was merely a quarrel between two individuals who got into a fight outside the venue, and that’s what happened,” he declared.
According to his account, Olivares arrived at the party shortly after 12:20 a.m. on Sunday, accompanied by two persons, and since he was not on the guest list, he had to pay for his entrance.
“I went out, greeted him, and told him he was not invited, so he had to pay the entry fee. He paid and stayed on the dance floor. He started dancing very erratically, as if he were intoxicated.”, he detailed, which aligns with the statement issued by the sports club, which suggested that “given his behavior, expressions, and demeanor during the event, it is assumed that the deputy was under the influence of alcohol.”
“If I am a deputy and I enter a place where I am not invited and see people who are clearly intoxicated, I would leave; that would be the right thing to do,” he pointed out.
The conflict, Gutiérrez reiterated, had no political origins. It began when Olivares accidentally pushed the partner of one of the attendees while dancing. “At one point, he bumped into a young woman and pushed her. The woman said something to him, and her husband got angry and punched him,” he recounted.
From that moment onward, the situation escalated. The woman pulled her partner out of the venue, but Olivares followed him, along with his advisor. “At that point, Olivares and his advisor were hitting the young man,” asserted the leader.
Far from being a passive victim, Gutiérrez insisted that Olivares and his advisor physically and verbally assaulted the young individuals, including the woman, who also sustained injuries. The brother of the assaulted young man then intervened to defend him, triggering a brawl. “The young man has a bruise on his shoulder. The woman was also hit. The advisor struck her. They only reported the injuries yesterday due to fear of repercussions, considering he is a deputy. It’s like David against Goliath,” he lamented.
“I do not justify the blows, but Olivares and his advisor bear responsibility since they were the ones who assaulted the young man outside,” he emphasized.
Gutiérrez also questioned the deputy’s account regarding the time of arrival: Olivares claimed to have arrived at around 2:20 a.m., while the president maintains it was at 12:27 a.m., backed by the entrance payment receipt. Additionally, he asserted that following the incident, the deputy ordered his assistant to cut off all aid to the institution: “We won’t give them anything. Delete all assistance.”
During the interview with ADN Radio, Gutiérrez suggested that Javier Olivares seeks to elevate his ego and expressed his frustration that his political faction, where he is a member of RN, has chosen to support the version provided by the PSG deputy without being aware of the facts surrounding the case.
“What bothers me the most is that I belong to Renovación Nacional, and many deputies and senators from my line, including the president, have supported him,” he indicated.
“I’m not justifying violence, but things should be told as they are, and what really happened. If this person is to be condemned for having assaulted someone, then he (Olivares) should also be condemned, as he also committed an offense,” he concluded.
