Senator Daniella Cicardini (PS) has fired harsh criticisms at Finance Minister Jorge Quiroz, accusing him of pushing measures that have raised the cost of living while exercising undue influence within President José A. Kast’s government.

In a conversation with Xanadu Radio, the legislator questioned Quiroz’s role during the early months of the current administration and asserted that his decisions have directly impacted Chilean families.

«Every time Quiroz appears, things go wrong for Chile. First, it was with the collusions, and now with political decisions like the gas price hike that raised living costs for all Chileans,» the socialist parliamentarian stated on the aforementioned radio station.

Cicardini believes that the Finance Minister has shown «little sensitivity» to the economic measures implemented by the Executive, particularly criticizing the government’s tax reform.

«Clearly, we have seen a minister who is insensitive, who lacks empathy in his decisions, and moreover, in my opinion, I believe he poses a public danger to our country,» said the senator from the Atacama Region.

Political Influence

A significant concern for Cicardini is the political influence that Quiroz purportedly wields within the presidential cabinet, noting that «it is extremely questionable when a minister seems to have more power than the President of Chile himself.»

She reiterated her concerns regarding the tax reform promoted by the government, arguing that its benefits appear to be concentrated among higher income sectors: «We cannot agree when there is immense harm to the Chilean population. We will not be available for the poor to pay what the rich do not want to pay.»

In light of all this, Cicardini urged President Kast to clearly define the direction of his administration and to demonstrate who is truly guiding the strategic decisions of the government.

«I hope the President understands who is leading the roadmap and governs for all Chileans, not just for the wealthiest 1% of Chile,» the legislator concluded.
