The Chamber of Deputies has approved a bill that liberalizes the establishment of subsidized private schools. Deputy Luis Cuello (PC) voted against the measure, warning that it reinstates market logic in the educational system, favoring the expansion of private institutions over the strengthening of public education.

During his speech in the chamber, the lawmaker argued that the project also paves the way for the privatization of public schools through the concept of «delegated administration.»

«Public education is being suffocated to facilitate privatization,» he stated, emphasizing that while these measures are advanced, the public system continues to be weakened instead of addressing its critical needs.

Cuello asserted that the project is part of a governmental effort to dismantle public education.

«It aims to restore market dynamics within the educational system and encourage the opening of private schools, even without sufficient demand to justify it. They claim to expand enrollment opportunities, but in reality, they will empower education merchants and strip resources from public education,» concluded the communist legislator.
