‘Chile Deserves the Whole Truth’: Complaint Will Be Filed with the Prosecutor’s Office Regarding New Developments in the Hermosilla Case Involving Chile’s New Ambassador to Israel, Gabriel Zaliasnik

A journalistic investigation by Reportea.cl has uncovered previously unreleased chats between Gabriel Zaliasnik, the current Chilean ambassador in Israel, and lawyer Luis Hermosilla. These messages discuss drastic actions such as cutting off internet access during social unrest, intercepting opposition communications, as well as judicial appointments and utilizing confidential funds for legal defenses.

«We will file a complaint with the @FiscaliadeChile for a thorough investigation. The conversations between Hermosilla and newly appointed ambassador Gabriel Zaliasnik are not mere private chats. They indicate alleged misuse of public resources, influence over judges, and political espionage, aimed at protecting allies and pursuing adversaries,» stated Deputy Manouchehri.

The senator emphasized, «This matter is too serious to be merely brushed off as a communications issue. Chile deserves the whole truth. #CasoHermosilla.» On Twitter, she added, «The government talks a lot about institutional respect. However, the revelations in the Hermosilla case involving the new ambassador to Israel point to possible misuse of confidential funds for legal defenses, pressures within the judiciary, and political espionage. This does damage to democracy and trust in institutions. We will report these facts for investigation.»

Among the messages, dated between 2016 and 2023, Zaliasnik suggested «cutting internet like in Iran» and gathering data on opponents. He also coordinated payments for defending General Mario Rozas with Loreto Silva and Andrés Chadwick, requesting Hermosilla for a nudge to influence Minister Lilian Leyton. Additionally, in 2021, Hermosilla offered him the position of Minister of Justice under Kast, to which Zaliasnik replied, «I will cover your flank from the Nazi accusation.»

Ambassador Zaliasnik, recently appointed by José Antonio Kast, confirmed he received fees for defending Rozas but denied any receipt of confidential funds. Loreto Silva did not respond, while Chadwick denied involvement in the payments. While the government emphasizes institutional respect, the opposition is announcing legal actions. «Chile deserves the whole truth,» stated Cicardini, in a warning that keeps this case on the public and judicial agenda.
