46% of the public is skeptical about José Kast’s narrative, believing that the mega-reform economic-tax plan promoted by his government primarily benefits large companies and high-income individuals, according to the latest Agenda Criteria Survey conducted on May 10, 2026.

The survey indicated that the project—which includes controversial measures like a reduction of corporate tax from 27% to 23%, the elimination of capital gains taxes, the introduction of a tax credit for formal employment, as well as tax stability for 25 years for investments exceeding US$50 million—is rejected by 30% of respondents; while 33% indicated they are undecided, and 37% expressed support.

Meanwhile, 35% believe the reform aims to create jobs for the general population, while a 19% remains neutral regarding the two prevailing views on the proposal.

This segment has increased by seven percentage points compared to the previous measurement, reflecting a growing situation of uncertainty regarding one of the key proposals pushed by the far-right president.

51% Disapprove of Kast’s Government

The opinion study, based on 1,000 cases nationwide and conducted online from May 7 by a panel of men and women aged 18 and older across socioeconomic levels ABCD, revealed that Kast’s government approval has dropped by 2 percentage points to 36%, while the disapproval rate remains stable at 51%. Additionally, 13% of respondents indicated they are unsure whether they approve or disapprove of his administration.

The Agenda Criteria Survey also examined public opinion regarding the management of the «emergency» situation that the president and government officials have established, under which a range of controversial measures have been justified, including a budget cut of 3% to ministries, a historic rise in fuel prices, referred to as the «gasoline hike,» and a decision to restrict tuition-free higher education exclusively to students under 30 years old; alongside cuts to the National Anti-Organized Crime Program (PNCO), amid rising homicide rates linked to criminal organizations.

This revealed that 40% believe the government’s path is incorrect; 37% evaluate it as correct, while the group with unclear opinions is increasing
(23%, +3 pts).
