This April, Red Salas de Cine will host two free training sessions aimed at enhancing the development and professionalization of audiovisual exhibition spaces. These workshops will focus on management and programming skills specifically tailored for independent cinemas, cultural venues, and film clubs.
The workshops titled Film Club Practices: History, Methodology, and Exhibition Rights and Curating and Managing Films: Finding the Voice of a Cinema are designed for cultural managers, programmers, directors, coordinators, and those involved in cinema mediation within cultural spaces across the country.
Interested participants can register for one or both sessions by completing the registration form by Monday, April 20. The virtual sessions will last three hours each, taking place on Thursdays, April 23 and 30, from 10 AM to 1 PM.
Dominique Rammsy, president of Red Salas de Cine, emphasized that these workshops stem from a specific need in the sector: to strengthen the capacities of those who sustain and project cinematic exhibitions, particularly national films, across different territories.
“Creating these educational spaces is crucial for professionalizing the work of cinemas, sharing experiences, and building a common vision around cinema as a cultural space for encounter, circulation of works, and reflection,” commented Rammsy.
Film Club Practices: History, Methodology, and Exhibition Rights will be led by Lucas R. Beckett, president and coordinator of the Chilean Film Clubs Association, on Thursday, April 23, from 10 AM to 1 PM.
This introductory talk on film club practices covers its history, methodological principles, and development strategies. Additionally, the workshop will explore the importance of film clubs and their relevance in today’s context, providing practical tools for management and the initial steps in establishing a film club, including key concepts about exhibition rights and intellectual property.
On Thursday, April 30, the workshop Curating and Managing Films: Finding the Voice of a Cinema will be conducted by Claudio Pereira, founder and programmer of INSOMNIA Teatro Condell and Artistic Director of the International Film Week in Valparaíso.
The session will focus on the curation and content management of a cinema within the framework of the contemporary cultural and cinematic ecosystem. Initially, it will review legal, cultural, historical, and political aspects shaping the current exhibition landscape in Chile, along with some relevant conceptual definitions for film management and programming.
The second segment will share significant experiences that encourage reflection on the identity of cultural and exhibition spaces, as well as their sustainability, permanence, and defense as places of gathering for audiences around cinema.
