The operation was carried out by the USAR ECU-01 team from Ecuador, alongside rescuers from El Salvador, as reported in official statements from the Quito Fire Department.
On this action, Esteban Cárdenas, chief of the Quito Fire Department, expressed on his X account that «saving a life» is the utmost significance of the mission that emergency services fulfill, according to teleSUR. The fire department acknowledged the efforts of its colleagues deployed in the affected area and assured that search operations will continue to locate more missing persons.
This was the second rescue of a minor carried out during efforts on Saturday. Brigades from the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (Ungrd) of Colombia successfully rescued 11-year-old Moisés, who was trapped in a building in Los Corales, La Guaira state. Previously, Acting President Delcy Rodríguez met with international ambassadors and rescue crews, where she revealed that «today (Saturday), we have managed to rescue 33 people alive». «We are in the critical hours to save lives. The earthquakes have resulted in a casualty count of 1,430 deceased and 3,238 injured, as reported in the afternoon hours of Saturday, June 27.
