A journalistic investigation by Revista RAYA and Señal Colombia (RTVC) has uncovered the existence of Project Jupiter, a political operation designed to influence the upcoming presidential elections on May 31 by creating fear, outrage, and uncertainty among the public.

According to documents released by Revista RAYA, the mastermind behind this operation is Jaime Bermúdez Merizalde, former foreign minister under President Álvaro Uribe and strategist for his 2002 campaign. The investigation indicates that Bermúdez devised the plan while pursuing his doctorate at Oxford.
Project Jupiter operates on two fronts, as detailed by RAYA: first, vast social media campaigns targeting 17 million Colombians; second, workshops at private companies such as Carvajal, Tecnoquímicas, Sura, and Constructora Amarilo, where employees were allegedly pressured to influence their voting choices.
Jaime Bermúdez, in recordings revealed by Señal Investigativa, reportedly stated that his goal is to «regain control of the country for big business.” The magazine also links the strategist to boards of directors of large corporations and to the Superior Council of the University of the Andes.
The presidential candidate from the Historical Pact, Iván Cepeda, speaking from Pereira and quoted by RTVC on April 26, denounced that the project “aims to manipulate the elections” and that media outlets and networks “have openly taken sides with the far right.”
Cepeda added: “It’s no longer about informing; now the issue is to lie and instigate hate.”
Meanwhile, an investigation by Diana Carolina Alfonso for Diario RED on April 24, 2026, revealed that, while real alerts from the CIA exist regarding a plot to assassinate Cepeda —information confirmed by President Gustavo Petro— the threats against Uribista candidates Paloma Valencia and Abelardo de la Espriella appear to have been a setup originating from a TikTok account called «Colombia Oscura.»
Diana Carolina Alfonso, amidst a series of attacks, also stated on her social media: “Who in that corporate universe has a sufficiently sordid history of human and labor rights violations, willing to fuel the return of Uribista securitism.”
Journalist Miller Soto, cited by Diario RED, tracked the images of funeral wreaths that former president Álvaro Uribe spread on April 17. These images did not originate from criminal structures, but rather from an openly Uribista account, which according to the media replicates the «old formula of Uribista false flags.»
Finally, Revista RAYA reported attacks on its freedom of expression and denied receiving direct state funding, clarifying that its agreement with RTVC is solely for the production of Señal Investigativa. The magazine announced that it will soon take legal actions to defend independent journalism.
It is important to note that in the southwest of Colombia, serious attacks against the civilian population have been perpetrated, aiming to instill fear and terror among innocent people.
