Rodrigo Mundaca Criticizes Housing Minister Poduje for Ignorant Remarks on Regional Governance
The Regional Governor of Valparaíso, Rodrigo Mundaca, has voiced strong criticism regarding recent comments made by Housing Minister Iván Poduje. In an interview with Radio Biobío, Poduje stated that he had not met with Mundaca because it generally «makes little sense to meet with governors who do not allocate resources.»
When asked specifically about a meeting with Mundaca, Poduje elaborated, saying: «No, governors have a different role, much less impactful because they do not provide resources. We have met with governors who have allocated funds… I was with Governor (Diego) Paco yesterday, thanking him for allocating resources to purchase land for social housing, but generally, it doesn’t make much sense to meet with governors who do not allocate resources.»
In response, the Valparaíso regional authority lamented, «once again, the ignorance of the Housing Minister.»
Mundaca added, «I lament, once more, that they come to the territories, but do not understand what regional governments do,» during the same interview, stating that Poduje, «by saying that he only meets with governors who allocate funds, overlooks that the Regional Government of Valparaíso has contributed more than 13 billion pesos to Serviu.»
He noted that from the total resources allocated to Serviu, about 47% has already been executed, with over 6.8 billion pesos still pending use, prompting him to announce he would send a formal letter to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (Minvu) to inquire about the planning and execution of these funds.
«I am an elected authority, and he is an official appointed by the Central Government and should be informed about what is happening in the regions. That is the point,» emphasized Rodrigo Mundaca.
