On July 4th and 5th, the 4th Annual ‘Rain of Books’ will take place at the GAM Cultural Center in Santiago, featuring more than 90 independent and university publishers from across the country in a free fair dedicated to reading and bibliodiversity.
From 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, visitors to the Central Plaza at GAM can explore a wide array of publications including children’s and young adult literature, narrative, poetry, essays, graphic novels, heritage books, and other publications that showcase the richness of the Chilean publishing ecosystem.
Alejandra Martí Olbrich, the Executive Director of GAM, emphasized that «as a vibrant cultural center honoring our Nobel Prize-winning author Gabriela Mistral, we understand that events like these open up spaces for citizen engagement and cultivate a habit as enriching as reading. This aligns with our decision to introduce a focus on ideas and thought as part of our disciplinary offerings this year.»
«As a creative hub that fosters talent, we also value being part of this showcase dedicated to independent and university publishing,» added Alejandra Martí.
The ‘Rain of Books’ is organized by Editoriales de Chile, a trade association representing 154 independent and university publishers. The participating publishers cover a diverse range of publication types and formats, offering a representative display of the country’s independent and university publishing production.
“It’s much more than just a fair: it’s an opportunity to engage with the work being done by independent and university publishers and to get closer to the diversity of books being produced in the country today,” stated Rocío Barros, President of Editoriales de Chile.
In addition to the editorial offerings, the fair will feature food trucks and family-friendly spaces, transforming the visit into a cultural experience for all ages.
Throughout both days, attendees will have direct access to the catalogs of independent and university publishers from various regions of the country, learn about specialized publishing projects, and discover books that typically circulate outside traditional sales channels.
Having held three successful editions, the ‘Rain of Books’ has established itself as a meeting point for independent and university publishing, bringing the public closer to a wide array of catalogs and publishing projects in the country.
