In celebration of International Jazz Day on April 30, Backroom Chile will host a special event featuring a diverse lineup that explores different moments and styles of jazz throughout one unforgettable night, seamlessly blending live music with cocktail offerings and gastronomy.
The event will kick off at 8:30 PM with a dixieland quartet led by Mississippi Chile (shown in the photo), a group that revives the jazz of 1920s New Orleans with an acoustic setup of clarinet, tuba, banjo, and percussion, combining collective improvisation with classics from the traditional repertoire, all enhanced by a period aesthetic that enriches the experience.
Later in the evening, starting at 10:30 PM, the Crespo Jazz Quintet will take the stage, offering a performance that traverses bebop, hard bop, and modern jazz, capturing the essence of classic quintets from a contemporary perspective. This ensemble, featuring vibes, trumpet, tenor sax, double bass, and drums, emphasizes improvisation, interaction, and a sound characterized by the prominent use of the vibraphone.

Designed as a journey within the same night, the programming allows the audience to choose between these two moments or experience the entire show, all in an intimate setting that fosters closeness with the musicians.
“From the beginning, one of our main concerns has been the sound. Not just in technical terms, but in how live music truly resonates: ensuring each instrument has its space, maintaining balance, and allowing the audience to connect with what is happening on stage,” comments Nick Baranov, founder of Backroom.
In this vein, the venue has developed a carefully crafted auditory experience, understanding jazz as a genre where listening and detail play a central role.

Since its establishment in Santiago, Backroom has become a hub for live music, offering a consistent calendar that spans various styles and formats.
In addition to its programming in Santiago, Backroom is also pursuing new collaborative efforts at a regional level, focusing on the exchange of experiences related to live music, gastronomy, and nightlife.
As part of this initiative, the venue has begun a partnership with the Colombian group Somos Belisario, aimed at fostering connections between scenes and proposals within the industry.
Continuing this series, Backroom will host another event on May 2, reinforcing its commitment to the live jazz experience and the close relationship between musicians and their audience.
Backroom is located at Perez Valenzuela 1470, Providencia, Santiago.
