With a lineup that blends theatrical classics, humor, contemporary circus, and educational activities, the Matucana 100 Cultural Center invites families, children, youth, and performing arts enthusiasts to enjoy winter vacation with a special program designed for all ages.
Throughout July, the cultural center will host theater performances, workshops, and interactive experiences that will transform its various spaces into an unmissable destination for these holidays.
First up, for families seeking a fun outing, from July 9 to July 19, the show «Clown School» by Teatro Klon will be presented—an entertaining clown and contemporary circus production that invites the audience to be judges in the final exam of six clown candidates.
Featuring acrobatics, juggling, live music, and plenty of humor, the performance offers a participatory experience suitable for both kids and adults. Tickets are priced at $7,000, with discounted rates available for students, seniors, and select popular performances.
The theatrical circuit will continue from July 16 to July 19 with «The Swap Gathering», the sixth creation from the musical-theatrical group La Corre y Vuela, celebrating a decade of artistic journey.
This play features puppet grandmothers who sing and act as protagonists in a narrative created from real-life testimonies of older individuals, gathered through a period of interaction and research with the Golden Voices choir from Quinta Normal.
Through murga, traditional theater, and live music, this piece reflects on memory, aging, and intergenerational transmission.
From July 23 to July 26, the Patricio Bunster Space will host «ADA» by O’Ryan Lab, directed by Tomás O’Ryan.
Inspired by the true story of Ada Blackjack, this production combines puppetry, masks, and live music to narrate the survival odyssey of a young Inupiat in the unforgiving Arctic.
Eschewing verbal language, the staging focuses on visual and gestural storytelling rich with symbolism, resulting from a rigorous artistic workshop that incorporates puppet and mask-making techniques enhanced by analog mechanisms and 3D printing.
Performances will occur on Thursdays and Fridays at 7:30 PM, and Saturdays and Sundays at 6:30 PM, with tickets priced at $7,000 (general), $6,000 (students and seniors), and $5,000 (popular Thursday performance). The show runs for 50 minutes and is suitable for all audiences.
Finally, from July 23 to August 2, «Hamlet-Multitude», a fresh creation from Shakespeare & Co., directed by Claudia Echenique, will be showcased.
This adaptation revisits one of the English playwright’s most iconic texts from a contemporary lens, situating the narrative within the context of Chile, and inviting reflection on power, death, politics, love, and betrayal through a staging that combines various theatrical languages.
In this segment, aimed at young and adult audiences, from July 18 to August 8, a workshop titled «The History of the Vampire in Cinema and Culture» will be offered, exploring the evolution of this character from its origins to contemporary representations in film.
Led by journalist, researcher, and image studies expert Jorge Letelier, the course includes four two-hour sessions and will offer discounts for students.
