Starting April 16, the Museum Taller will host the solo exhibition «Human Gardens» by sculptor Joaquín Hidalgo.
The exhibit features over 20 wooden sculptures, including one from the Contemporary Art Collection of the Ministry of Cultures, Arts, and Heritage. These pieces are displayed throughout various areas of the museum, inviting visitors to engage in a reciprocal reflection through the constant dialogue created between the artworks and the museum’s collections and spaces.
In this context, «Human Gardens» serves as an allegorical representation of society, where multiple universes coexist with diverse sensibilities within a shared space. Hidalgo expresses his relationship with the garden by opening fences, diversifying species, reclaiming perspectives, and transforming fallen trees into symbolic structures that hint at a blossoming future.

Though these pieces are emotionally complex—and the struggle of forms to emerge from the material is palpable—in Joaquín Hidalgo’s hands, wood becomes a medium of tenderness.

Additionally, staying true to the Museum Taller’s and the artist’s commitment to showcasing «the beauty of processes,» Hidalgo will work on a sculpture during the weekends of the exhibition, using a trunk measuring 2 meters long and 80 cm in diameter, which he aims to complete while the exhibition runs. This offers a unique opportunity to observe, appreciate, and engage with an artist creating work on-site.
«It is an honor for Museum Taller to host this exhibition by an artist who loves wood and possesses a reflective depth we have only begun to explore. Perhaps the most valuable aspect is that he himself is surprised by the delicate power that translates through his work,» stated representatives from the capital’s cultural space.
