Kicking off the Winter Cycle on July 1st, Teatro Sidarte (Ernesto Pinto Lagarrigue 131, Recoleta) highlights the retrospective of Ocaso Teatro with its production of Chilenito (featured image), a compelling narrative exploring themes of migration, difference, and the quest for belonging. The programming will continue throughout the month with additional performances of La niña de trapo, Lo que queda del fuego, and AMARelTÉ.
All productions are scheduled for 7:30 PM at the Sala María Elena Duvauchelle, part of the Theatre Workers Union. This initiative is funded by the Support Program for Collaborating Cultural Organizations, Call 2026 from the Ministry of Cultures, Arts, and Heritage.
The schedule begins between July 1 and 4 with Chilenito, marking the second work in the retrospective of Ocaso Teatro. The story follows Crespo, a young Chilean who sets off on a bike journey outside the country in search of opportunities, while grappling with the challenges of migration and how his family confronts its own prejudices and contradictions.
Featuring live music, humor, and emotion, the production invites reflection on difference and the sense of belonging: «More than just a play about migration, Chilenito ultimately became a work about difference, the desire for acceptance, and the need to find one’s own identity amidst an environment that often demands uniformity,» shares playwright David Gajardo Gúmera.
He adds that the play originated from an enduring question: «We wondered if it was possible to feel like a foreigner without ever having left the place where you were born.» From this premise, Chilenito examines the experience of dislocation beyond geographical boundaries, addressing the feeling of not belonging and the search for a space where one can be recognized through empathy.
Next, the program continues on July 9, 10, and 11 with La niña de trapo, presented by the Compañía Tercer Cuerpo, written and directed by Belén Gómez. The play constructs a poetic universe around a girl who dreams of becoming a dancer, while her family navigates illness, absence, and the fragility of memories.
Subsequently, from July 16 to 25, Thurdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, Lo que queda del fuego by Bitácora Teatro Chile will be performed. Written and directed by Rodrigo Cabello Zárate, the play places a couple in the midst of a curfew, intertwining the tensions of their relationship with a country marked by social upheaval and a pandemic.
Finally, from July 29 to August 1, AMARelTÉ: a play in 7 cups for two bodies, an emptiness, and a spinning top will grace the stage, presented by the AmarelTé Research Project, directed by Paula Calderón Ortiz and co-written with Marcela Sáiz Carvajal.
Inspired by the seven cups of Lu Tung’s Tea Treaty, this proposal invites audiences to engage in an intimate and sensory theatrical experience that emphasizes slowness, silence, and contemplation as forms of resistance against the fast pace of contemporary life.
Performances will operate under a “pay what you can” model, aiming to increase access to the performing arts. Tickets are already available through Ticketplus.
