Original article: Consejo de Defensa del Estado amplía querella contra exdiputado DC Gabriel Silber en «trama bielorrusa»
A report by Radio Biobío reported on Friday, June 5, that as part of the case known as the «Belarus scheme,» the State Defense Council (CDE) has filed an additional lawsuit to include former DC deputy Gabriel Silber as a new defendant.
According to the information provided, this action was presented to the 7th Guarantee Court of Santiago by Santiago’s attorney, Marcelo Chandía Peña, for the crimes of bribery and money laundering.
«This addition follows previous lawsuits filed in November and December 2025 against other members of the same legal firm: lawyers Eduardo Lagos Herrera and Mario Vargas Cociño, as well as against Vivanco Martínez herself,» notes the national broadcaster.
The CDE claims that Silber was fully aware of the payment scheme that his associates were executing to the former minister through her partner, Víctor Gonzalo Migueles Oteíza.
It’s worth noting that, as previously reported by El Ciudadano, the state-owned company Codelco also officially expanded its criminal lawsuit in April, including Silber and former DC deputy and ex-mayor of Valparaíso, Aldo Cornejo, as members of the legal firm «Lagos, Vargas & Silber Legal Consulting.»
In this case, former Supreme Court minister Ángela Vivanco is currently in preventive detention after being accused of receiving money from Eduardo Lagos and Mario Vargas, lawyers for the Belarus consortium CBM, amid its dispute with Codelco, which resulted in a ruling against the Chilean copper company amounting to over $18 billion.
According to Codelco’s lawsuit, Gabriel Silber, after participating in legal action favoring CBM – even personally arguing in the Court of Appeals of Copiapó and the Supreme Court – allegedly received transfers exceeding $65 million from the fees paid by the Belarus consortium with the funds that Codelco disbursed following the legal dispute, which are believed to be directly sourced from bribes to former minister Ángela Vivanco.
