Original article: Susana Giacaman pide no dejar de difundir la causa palestina: «La batalla también ocurre en el lenguaje, en las imágenes y en lo que se decide mostrar o callar»
In an interview with La Voz Digital, communicator and activist Susana Giacaman, granddaughter of Palestinians, stated that promoting the Palestinian cause is not just an informative exercise but also a «deeply political, ethical, and human» act.
In this context, she argued that Zionism should be viewed as a colonial expansion project linked to geopolitical and economic interests, sustained not only by military force but also by the construction of a dominant narrative capable of establishing a singular vision of reality.
Giacaman emphasized the crucial role of media, cultural institutions, and academic spaces in this environment.
«The battle also unfolds in language, in images, and in what is decided to be displayed or concealed», she remarked, highlighting the current hegemony of information that historically presents the occupier as a victim and the Palestinian people as aggressors, thus obscuring decades of occupation, displacement, and systemic violence.
According to Giacaman, colonization «not only operates on territory but also on the identity and memory of peoples,» therefore, she believes that «the destruction of schools, libraries, and the killing of journalists are part of a dehumanization strategy that seeks to erase the history, culture, and existence of the Palestinian people.»
In response, she stressed that «sharing testimonies, disseminating content, and creating spaces for reflection becomes a form of resistance and counter-hegemony», especially in a scenario marked by massive access to social networks and, consequently, to real-time testimonies.
«We all have the ability to do something,» Giacaman insisted, «from writing a news article to sharing a post or expressing support on social media,» as she believes that «there are no small actions when it comes to confronting silence and the normalization of violence.»
