Original article: Profesores criticaron instructivo de Superintendencia de Educación sobre seguridad: «No apunta debidamente a los temas de fondo»
The College of Teachers expressed criticism following the release of a guidance document by the Education Superintendence concerning safety measures in educational institutions.
Mario Aguilar, the national president of the teaching union, commented that «while for the first time a government authority is addressing mental health, the guidelines do not tackle the essence of the issue.»
Aguilar added, «Similar to all announcements made by the government, while they touch on some matters related to the current context and the containment of extreme situations experienced recently, they do not adequately address the underlying issues.»
In this regard, the union leader pointed out that «the Superintendence mentions mental health. It is the first time that a government educational authority has acknowledged mental health, but there are no indications of resources or the necessary conditions for schools to effectively address such a critical and pressing issue as mental health.»
Moreover, Aguilar stated, «Many of these measures require resources, such as the installation of gate systems, and the mental health aspect, which is foundational. However, without funding, it will be very challenging to implement them.»
«In this sense, I insist, it is very contradictory for the government to continue the idea of reducing education budgets by 3%, because this, in practical terms, means that in most Local Services, municipalities, and private providers, programs and professionals will be cut, which is exactly the opposite of what is needed right now,» warned the teacher.
Lastly, the College of Teachers reiterated that it is essential—yet missing from the instructions and policies announced by the Ministry of Education—to review the curriculum to focus more on human development rather than merely competing to climb the rankings.
«We believe this is the significant deficit in the various announcements being made at this time,» concluded Mario Aguilar.
We will continue to provide updates.
