Original article: Teatro Sidarte reúne obras que desafían las normas de género, amor e identidad en nuevo Ciclo Disidente durante el Mes del Orgullo
Teatro Sidarte is launching the Ciclo Disidente this June, featuring a lineup of four national theatrical productions that delve into LGBTQIANB+ experiences, memory, gender transition, and sexual diversities through theater, music, and performance.
All performances will take place at 7:30 PM in the María Elena Duvauchelle Hall (Ernesto Pinto Lagarrigue 131, Recoleta) within the Teatro del Sindicato de Actrices, Actores y Trabajadores del Teatro (Sidarte). This initiative is part of a Management Plan funded by the Support Program for Collaborative Cultural Organizations, Call 2026, by the Ministry of Cultures, Arts, and Heritage.
Ernesto Orellana, the coordinator of Teatro Sidarte, emphasized the crucial role of creating spaces for performances that address sexual diversities and dissidence in today’s context.
«In a climate where hate speech is resurging, and there are denialist politics towards sexual diversity, as well as a troubling increase in acts of discrimination against the LGBTIQNB+ community, as highlighted by a recent report from Movilh; the union’s theater opens a space during Pride Month to encourage reflection, raise awareness, and help us foster a society that is free, peaceful, and respectful of all,» Orellana stated.
«These productions represent companies that have been working on narratives and aesthetics that challenge gender, sexuality, and non-normative identities. They are performances arising from workers who embody sexual diversity; recognizing this is essential for enhancing their perspectives within national artistic scenes,» the coordinator of Teatro Sidarte stressed.
From June 10 to 13, the play Madre de la patria lésbica, by Teatro La Crisis, written and directed by Evaluna Valdivieso, will be showcased. This theatrical concert is inspired by Gabriela Mistral’s Poema de Chile, revisiting the Nobel laureate’s work from a queer perspective. Through a cantata that traverses various regions of the country, the production connects Mistral with key figures from her life and imagination.

The programming continues from June 17 to 20 with Gay male by La Desideria Teatro, written and directed by Antenor Allendes. This piece depicts the breakdown of a heterosexual couple as the woman begins her gender transition, a scenario that strains their sexual identities and gender roles.
The cycle concludes from June 25 to 27 with Cadáver de Dios by ReinaCaballo Teatro, written by Cristóbal Cartes Miranda and directed by Marco Espinoza Quezada. This satirical comedy features two nuns and a young magician discovering the corpse of an alien in a medieval forest, sparking reflections on gender, beliefs, and worldviews through humor, irony, and elements of science fiction.
Performances will adopt a ‘pay what you can’ system to broaden accessibility to the performing arts. Tickets are available through Ticketplus.
Additionally, Teatro Sidarte will host a free workshop titled Cultural Management in Theater on June 20. Led by Juan Pablo Martínez, the workshop aims to provide tangible materials and tools for the administrative and financial sustainability of performing artists, managers, and producers within the theater community. This project is funded by the National Fund for the Promotion and Development of Performing Arts, Call 2024.
