A technical glitch in an automated system has revealed the machinery employed by the La Libertad Avanza (LLA) government to inflate support for Argentina’s president, Javier Milei, on social media.

What was supposed to be an invisible propaganda operation became evident when a set of programmed accounts started posting content with positive messages about the far-right leader’s management, inadvertently revealing an automated error that raised alarms about the use of a libertarian bot farm intended to simulate massive and organic popular backing.

The accounts published identical responses preceded by technical tags like «Reply1:» or «Reply7:», revealing that behind the profiles were not real citizens, but a pre-written script connected to a digital propaganda operation.

According to reports from El Destape, the glitch became particularly noticeable in posts by Santiago Oría, Director of Audiovisual Productions for the Presidency, where comments from purported followers appeared in identical, scripted patterns. The texts echoed official messaging themes: fervent defenses of economic measures, systemic attacks on Kirchnerism, and the repetition of characteristic slogans from La Libertad Avanza.

The peculiarity of the glitch lay in the management system, which, when executing commands from a database, failed to filter out the identifier code of each pre-written response and printed it alongside the political message, a lapse that highlighted the artificial nature of an interaction meant to simulate real-time engagement.

This mechanism, known in the digital realm as astroturfing, involves creating the illusion of grassroots support when in reality it is an orchestrated campaign aimed at artificially inflating backing in online discussions and inundating the comments section of key posts to saturate the space and deter or manipulate critiques from real users.

The technical glitch also revealed that the same behavioral patterns had been observed during the 2019 PASO campaign, when the government of Mauricio Macri experienced a similar setback. At that time, hundreds of profiles posted messages generated by literal translation software that immortalized the infamous phrase «Significant caress from Hurlingham,» an error that attempted to translate affectionate expressions from English and ended up becoming a meme.

In both cases, the oversight in code configuration had a paradoxical outcome: instead of fostering a wave of support and positively influencing public opinion, the error succeeded in highlighting the fragility of the digital framework upon which Milei’s supposed popularity is built.
