Nestled among the dense forests and riverbanks of the Los Ríos Region, the city of La Unión has cultivated a resilient yet understated musical tradition. While national rap shines in the urban centers, this southern enclave nurtures its rhymes from a community-driven perspective, prioritizing local codes over commercial metrics.

To document this hidden pulse, the independent platform La Celda de Bob launched an artistic expedition named La reUnión. Following a successful venture in Osorno, the project moved to La Unión to create an audiovisual record that connects various generations of artists under a unified rhythmic and territorial banner.

Memories of a Shared Origin and Autonomous Resistance

The sound architecture of the cypher was crafted by the producer ZterioBeats, who created the instrumental beats and managed sound engineering. On his frequencies converge the voices of historical figures and emerging local talents such as Odas, RumbleUno, Drodyck, Estilo Loco, and Grizzlit. Ground coordination was led by Álvaro Andler (Kurdo), a key figure in the collective Inche Ta Newen, who chose to step back vocally to elevate his peers’ talents.

“I wanted to honor this in the video editing, not just showing rappers rapping, but delving deeper into the territory and its history […]. The guys from La Unión made me feel like one of them,” notes Darío Gutiérrez, the initiative’s director.

Far from aiming for mass or viral impact, the audiovisual piece serves as an archaeological and emotional exercise. Filmed at the local skatepark, enriched with archival footage from the micro-documentary Generación Doblehache, the work pays tribute to the pioneers of breakdancing and graffiti who planted the first seeds decades ago.

The outcome is now available on YouTube, solidifying nearly two decades of autonomous work aimed at immortalizing the margins of Latin American hip hop. At its core, it is an authentic postcard where music speaks directly to the living memory of a people.
