Total Failure: Discovery of Bridge over Security Ditch in Northern Chile Sparks Harsh Criticism of Kast’s Security Strategy

On Monday, June 15, the emergence of an improvised bridge allowing easy access over the security ditch constructed by Kast’s government at the Bolivia border was reported. So far, no arrests have been made regarding this incident, and Security Minister Martín Arrau described the situation as «expected.»

«They covered the ditch for Kast! A bridge over the trench separating parts of the Bolivia and Chile border has been discovered. Billions of pesos wasted,» commented Javier Pineda, director of El Ciudadano, upon hearing the news, which quickly went viral encapsulating the notion of a «total failure» of the government’s strategy.

Broadcast channels from Santiago reported that this was a «clandestine artisan structure built by transnational organized crime gangs right in the Colchane trench.»

MP Carolina Tello (FA) emphasized that «the bridge over the Colchane ditch represents the best metaphor for the failure of Kast’s security promise.»

«While the government promised total control of the border, someone planned a project, transported machinery, installed materials, and constructed a complete structure over one of their main barriers without anyone noticing in time,» the parliamentarian observed.

«If they can build a bridge over the infrastructure intended to protect the country, it is clear that propaganda is one thing, and reality is another,» Tello added.

In addition, journalist Nicolás Yáñez posed the question, «How quickly can they lay the next one?» He pointed out that the ditches of the Border Shield Plan had been bypassed with a metal bridge, which he noted «requires specialized equipment and considerable logistics,» as acknowledged by Minister Arrau himself.
