A Mexican national was tragically killed after being struck by a truck while attempting to escape from ICE agents during a raid in Florida.
According to international media reports, the incident occurred near St. Johns, Florida. This fatal event adds to a recent spate of violence involving ICE, including the shooting deaths of a Colombian and a Mexican in Maine and Texas, respectively.
Reports indicate that immigration agents were monitoring a group of individuals in a car at a gas station parking lot when they attempted to flee upon noticing the agents.
During the escape, one individual ran across a road and was struck by a larger vehicle. The death was confirmed by ICE, who stated, «We will provide an update when available,» in a brief press release.
The Diario de Yucatán reported that «the driver stopped immediately and tried to assist the victim.»
In response to the news, Democratic state representative Angie Nixon described the incident as a tragedy caused by an agency that is «out of control.»
«Whether ICE agents shoot a father on the streets of Houston, gun down a young person in Maine, or conduct operations right here in Northeast Florida that end in a fatal collision, the outcome is the same: fear, chaos, and death,» criticized the Florida House member, who called for the abolition of ICE.
Another Migrant Dies in ICE Custody
On the same day, reports surfaced about the death of a 45-year-old Venezuelan migrant who died while being transferred between two ICE detention centers in Georgia.
