The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Istanbul, Turkey, has requested a staggering 4,596 years in prison for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and 34 Israeli officials accused of committing «genocide» and «crimes against humanity» after the attack carried out in September 2025 against the Global Sumud Flotilla, which was delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The charges also encompass the «torture» of activists, who were illegally detained and subsequently transferred to prisons in Israeli territory while attempting to break the blockade imposed by the Zionist regime on the Palestinian enclave.

The Chief Prosecutor of Istanbul accused Netanyahu, along with officials such as Defense Minister Israel Katz; former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant; Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu; Public Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir; Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir; and Navy Commander David Saar Salama, among others, of participating in a military operation against civilians in international waters.

According to the Turkish newspaper Hürriyet, it was requested that each individual be sentenced separately for crimes against humanity, genocide, deprivation of liberty, torture, property damage, aggravated looting, obstruction of movement, kidnapping or retention of transport vehicles, to aggravated life imprisonment with sentences ranging from 1,102 years and 9 months to 4,596 years.

The indictment, which has been submitted to the 10th Heavy Criminal Court of Istanbul, argued that actions such as attacks on civilians, destruction of livelihoods, obstruction of humanitarian aid, and condemning the population to hunger, thirst, and lack of medical treatment are directly linked to genocide and crimes against humanity under international criminal law.

TeleSUR reported that Turkey conducted this investigation under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and its national penal codes, exercising jurisdiction over the serious crimes alleged, and is part of Ankara’s «commitment to accountability for military actions against humanitarian missions«.

In this regard, the Turkish Government’s Communications Director, Burhanettin Duran, stated that Benjamin Netanyahu, against whom the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza, «lacks moral values and legitimacy to give lessons.»

He also accused Netanyahu of plunging the Middle East region into a climate of instability.

The number of casualties from the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, has risen to over 72,000 dead and 172,000 injured.
