Urgent Call for Help: Support Needed for 19-Month-Old Noah Battling High-Risk Cancer in La Serena
Representative Carolina Tello, alongside Noah’s family, a 19-month-old boy from La Serena diagnosed with high-risk neuroblastoma, made an urgent appeal to health authorities to ensure access to the expensive medication Dinutuximab, a vital treatment to reduce the risk of relapse following his bone marrow transplant.
This medication, part of international protocols to treat this aggressive form of childhood cancer, currently lacks guaranteed coverage in Chile and is estimated to cost around $336 million.
In light of this pressing situation, Tello sent a formal request to the Ministry of Health for urgent actions to secure timely access to the treatment and review funding mechanisms for high-cost pediatric oncology therapies.
«They urgently require the support of the State. Now more than ever, they need this medication for an immunotherapy that our little Noah needs due to the pediatric cancer affecting him. We want to urge health authorities, particularly President Kast, to assist this family and provide the much-needed solution,» stated Representative Carolina Tello.
Regional councilwoman Ximena Ampuero highlighted the importance of ensuring dignified and timely access to complex treatments for children across the country.
«We are hopeful that Noah can access a scientifically proven treatment to decrease relapse risks after his autologous transplant. Together with Representative Carolina Tello, we are arranging meetings with the Ministry of Health to secure funding so that Noah, along with many other children, can live in peace,» she affirmed.
Noah’s mother, Angie Romo, explained that the family is racing against time, as the medication needs to be available within the next two months.
«This medication is not yet available in Chile as it is not commonly used, although it is part of the protocol in other countries. Noah’s cancer is highly aggressive, and this immunotherapy significantly reduces the risk of recurrence. It would provide life and peace to our entire family,» she stated.
The family continues to push for a solidarity campaign while awaiting a concrete response from health authorities.
