The Trump administration has ramped up its blockade against Cuba by implementing a series of new sanctions, targeting the island’s Tourism Ministry along with state-owned companies in the energy, transportation, and foreign trade sectors, as well as revolutionary activist groups.
This information was revealed by the U.S. Departments of State and Treasury. According to U.S. authorities, the measures aim to impact «the funding sources» of the Cuban government, which has led to sanctions on the Tourism Ministry; the Port Maritime Transportation Business Group (Gemar); the Superior Business Management Organization Caudal S.A.; the Foreign Trade Business Group (Gecomex); Coreydan S.A.; Enetec S.A.; and the Antillean Export Corporation (Antex S.A.).
Additionally, the sanctions extend to the Territorial Troops Militias (MTT), Rapid Response Brigades, and the Association of Defenders of the Cuban Revolution.
In response from Havana, President Miguel Díaz-Canel reacted to the news, stating: «Another week, another list of ‘sanctions’ against Cuba. This is the war of the U.S. aiming to strangle our economy.»
He further criticized, «They are intensifying aggression to inflict greater damage on the people. We are facing a genocidal design plan that was denounced at the UN less than a week ago,» emphasized the Cuban leader.
