Original article: “Hasta vencer la última sanción”: Venezuela denuncia que 1.040 medidas de presión siguen golpeando su economía
The Venezuelan people will remain mobilized «until every last sanction is defeated«, declared the interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, demanding that both the United States and other imperialist nations withdraw the over 1,000 coercive measures currently affecting the Caribbean nation’s economy and causing «financial suffocation«.
Rodríguez linked the complete lifting of sanctions against Venezuela to the full recovery of the population’s quality of life and assured that the government knows how to restore social welfare and improve electricity, water, and road services.
As the acting president after the military aggression carried out by the U.S. on January 3, which resulted in the deaths of over 100 military personnel and an equal number of civilians, including the kidnapping of constitutional president Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, she stated that the mobilization of the people within the framework of the so-called «Great National Pilgrimage» against the sanctions must remain active as a means of resistance until achieving absolute economic freedom for the country, reported Ciudad Caracas.
“I entrust this pilgrimage to you: do not cease until we have defeated every last sanction against Venezuela,” she affirmed during a recent mass event held in Aragua state (Central), prior to the conclusion of the first phase of national mobilization, which took place from April 19 to May 1 and included all economic, political, union, and social sectors.
During this occasion, Rodríguez made a strong appeal to U.S. President Donald Trump to immediately order the cessation of coercive measures. «Venezuela has the right to breathe and live in peace. Enough of collective punishment against our grandparents, our children, and youth. We want to leave them a country of opportunities, not a nation suffocated by external aggression,» she declared.
She emphasized that the demand for the end of the blockade is a «unifying cause» that should unite all Venezuelans, beyond their political positions. She called for the eradication of hate, racism, and intolerance to move towards what she has termed the «second independence» of the South American country.

Following the death of former president and leader of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo Chávez, in 2013 and Nicolás Maduro’s election, the Obama administration imposed sanctions on Venezuela. Subsequently, upon taking office in 2017, Donald Trump escalated the aggression, prohibiting the purchase of bonds issued by Caracas and state oil company PDVSA. In 2019, he imposed an oil embargo on the Caribbean nation and frozen its assets on U.S. territory to suffocate the country’s economy and thus force the ousting of President Maduro; meanwhile, the Central Bank of Venezuela faced sanctions, leaving the Venezuelan financial sector virtually isolated from the global banking circuit for nearly seven years.
In 2025, at the start of his second term, the Republican mogul ended the oil licenses, except for Chevron, which was authorized to operate without delivering resources to the Venezuelan government.
The Deputy Minister of Anti-Blockade Policies of Venezuela, William Castillo, stated that since the events of January 3, the U.S. has issued 14 licenses that represent temporary and conditional permission, but do not signify the end of sanctions and the blockade.
He indicated that there are still 1,040 active coercive measures out of a total of 1,088 sanctions imposed by the U.S. and other nations against the Caribbean country.
These pressure actions have resulted in a 98% drop in the Caribbean nation’s income, leading to accumulated losses exceeding $232 billion.
In an interview with TeleSUR, he stated that while these authorizations create a general framework allowing greater operational freedom for companies interested in investing in Venezuela, they are of limited nature.
«The licenses are temporary permission, and highly conditioned,” he emphasized.
He clarified that to lift the sanctions, it would suffice for the U.S. not to renew the executive order issued in March 2015 by former President Barack Obama, which designates Venezuela as an «unusual and extraordinary threat» in March of next year.
«The executive orders remain in effect because they are based on that decree. If it is not renewed, the framework of the sanctions loses its legal basis and collapses under its own weight,» the official asserted, as cited by the aforementioned media.
In a similar vein, the acting president has repeatedly indicated that a license «does not provide legal security» since it is «subject to temporality», thus insisting on the demand for the cessation of sanctions against Venezuela.
The sectoral vice president for Politics, Citizen Security, and Peace of Venezuela, Diosdado Cabello, announced a new phase of mobilization across the country following the conclusion of the so-called national pilgrimage against the sanctions.
He highlighted that this phase will concentrate efforts on areas related to production and the economy and promote women’s participation.
Cabello defined the mobilization as a great national gathering aimed at addressing the demands of citizens and strengthening direct consultation mechanisms with social bases.
According to the official, the purpose is to enhance institutional responsiveness and guide
public decisions based on needs detected in the territory during the first phase of the territorial deployment.
«We have listened to everyone who expressed a willingness to participate, including sectors of the opposition, religious, sports, and productive sectors,» he asserted, in statements reported by the Venezuelan News Agency (AVN).

Delcy Rodríguez criticized that despite the Venezuelan people’s demand for the definitive cessation of the sanctions choking the economy, “certain sectors persist in attempting to harm the country through falsehood and lies.
The acting president asserted that the political sectors calling for blockades against Venezuela «made a mistake» and have inflicted serious damages on the population, according to the newspaper El Universal.
«I opt for democratic coexistence despite differences,” she stated while contrasting the Bolivarian and progressive project promoted by her administration against what she termed the «anti-Venezuela» model put forth by extremist sectors.
