Victory of Mobilization: Saif and Thiago Released

The International Workers’ Unity – Fourth International (UIT-CI) announced the release of Saif Abukeshek and Thiago Ávila on Saturday, May 9, by the Zionist state of Israel, following confirmation from the Palestinian legal team led by Abdalah and the Spanish government.

They stated, «The release of Saif and Thiago marks a triumph of mobilization, protest, and global public pressure for their freedom and the Palestinian cause. The Global Sumud Flotilla, in its heroic effort to break the genocidal blockade of Gaza, was seized in international waters over 1000 km from occupied Palestine. Israel was forced to release the 170 crew members; however, these two international leaders were retained by Israel, facing severe condemnation. They were on a hunger strike, and we now see the outcome of their immediate release.»

Additionally, they noted, «This victory is another testament to the Palestinian resistance and the global movement in support of it. It stands against the genocide perpetrated by the Israeli apartheid state, backed by the U.S. and the far-right Trump administration. This gives us more strength to continue mobilizing in support of the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank. We support the resumption of the flotilla to attempt to break the siege by land and sea.»

The UIT-CI called for continued united mobilization to break Israel’s blockade to allow humanitarian assistance to reach those in need and demanded the release of over 9,000 Palestinians held in the apartheid state’s prisons. They announced that the next international mobilization is scheduled for May 15 for the March of Return, to sustain the struggle against genocide and the criminal blockade in Gaza, demanding the withdrawal of all troops from Gaza, ensuring massive humanitarian aid can enter. They stated, «Expel the Israeli troops from Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon. We unconditionally support the resistance of the Palestinian people for the end of the Zionist apartheid state. We joyfully celebrate the freedom of Thiago and Saif; let us intensify the mobilization for a Palestine free from the river to the sea,» concluded the International Workers’ Unity – Fourth International (UIT-CI).
