SANTIAGO — Certain spaces resonate with history, and today, the Popular Café proved to be one of them. In an atmosphere filled with warmth and a sense of belonging, the Yungay neighborhood witnessed the official launch of the recordings for the vinyl «Coffee, Memory, and Song«.
This musical project embraces the richness of analog format to preserve the stories and melodies that shape our collective identity. Historic live sessions will fill this iconic venue throughout July.
The tireless efforts of organizers Pedro Tapia, Alejandro Nogales, and Moisés Galea succeeded in bringing together a diverse spectrum of Chilean society.
«We are committed to vinyl because it requires us to pause and share,» emphasized Pedro Tapia, the initiative’s promoter. «We invite the community to experience these recording sessions. We will publish the schedule on the Popular Café’s social media, allowing for intimate gatherings, while we reinterpret the Tiny Marx style.»
The event gathered essential figures in public debate, including deputies Boris Barrera and Consuelo Veloso; the mayor of Quinta Normal, Karina Delfino; representative of the Central Committee of the Frente Amplio, Valeria Cárcamo; and the official delegation from the Cuban Embassy.
The gathering shone with the strength of civil and cultural fabric. Influential figures such as Ignacio Barría, national head of the Ramona Parra Brigade, shared the day alongside Gabriela Bustamante and Valeria Álvarez, leaders from the Teachers’ Association, and noted artisan of Carving and Memory, Antonella Sepúlveda. The initiative also resonated in the digital world, garnering enthusiastic support from content creators like Omar Salim from «Omar’s Log» and Pancha Style.
The heart of the day provided a vibrant preview of the album’s soul. Live music filled the hall with performances from Camila Chascona, Pancho Villa, and Moisés Newen. Their voices set the sonic stage for a landmark work, an album showcasing undisputed representatives of our scene, including Sol y Lluvia, Trío Inti Illimani, Chinoy, Ismael Oddó, Tribu Le-Bert, and Moral Distraída.
The event concluded with an open invitation to participate in this discographic milestone during July. «Coffee, Memory, and Song» transcends mere sound recording to become a vital archive of our time. Embracing vinyl in an era of immediacy represents an act of rebellion, a direct way to ensure that the history, culture, and voice of Chilean social fabric endure strongly for future generations.
