Deputy Carolina Tello, leader of the Broad Front, discussed the latest audit report and the implementation of the new fishing quota law, stating, «The audit report does not question the objective of the measure or the implementation of the Fishing Quota Law.»
The foremost priority is to provide reassurance to artisan fishers. The audit report does not challenge the primary objective of the measure or its implementation under the Fishing Quota Law, nor does it address the core concerns raised by petitioners. Its focus is solely on a procedural aspect that requires correction.
Furthermore, this falls well within the jurisdiction of the Audit Office, which has recently scrutinized other reports, including one concerning the Uber Law established during the current administration.
Currently, the responsibility lies with the Undersecretariat of Fisheries, which must act promptly to address the procedural observations raised by the audit resolution.
We cannot afford to take a step back, as administrative delays are only hindering the effect of a law approved by Congress that seeks a fairer distribution of fishing resources in our country.
