Deputy Gonzalo Winter (FA) has announced that he received a response from the Presidency regarding his Transparency request about the meeting held by President Kast with Peter Thiel, the owner of Palantir Technologies.
«They claim it was merely a protocol meeting, where the discussion was limited to artificial intelligence and its implications for States. We must remember that this was a conversation between a Head of State and a tech magnate who engages in contracts with the government for defense, surveillance, and similar issues,» Winter stated.
«However,» he added, «we were informed that they cannot provide the details of the discussion because there is no official record, but even if there were, it would not be disclosed due to provisions regarding confidential communications, which could jeopardize national security and interests among other things.»
The left-wing parliamentarian described it as «quite concerning that President Kast chooses to keep the topics of that meeting secret. For this reason, we will officially inquire all ministries to determine whether they too have had meetings with Peter Thiel or with Palantir.»
«There is a fundamental question here. Peter Thiel is one of the world’s most influential entrepreneurs in surveillance and intelligence technologies, through companies that contract with governments. When someone who holds such power, interests, and worldview talks privately with the President, transparency ceases to be just an administrative detail,» insisted Deputy Winter.
We will continue to provide updates.
