Humanoid robots are already taking on roles in factories, but their most impactful scenario may soon be in our homes. At the 2026 World Robotics Conference, Jiao Jichao, Vice President of UBTECH and Director of the Institute of Embedded Intelligence and Humanoid Robots, told CGTN Español that within ten years, we could see humanoid robots assisting and working alongside people at home. He emphasized the need to develop safety standards and regulations for their secure use.
The 2026 World Robotics Conference is taking place from August 19 to 23 in Beijing, featuring over 3,000 innovative exhibits and more than 300 new products.
Jiao Jichao noted, «I believe that in the future we will have a society where humans and robots coexist. Therefore, in developing robots, both in terms of safety and the intelligence capabilities of their models, our fundamental principle is that they must not surpass or replace humans, nor cause them harm. This is a crucial guideline we follow in developing our products. So, I think the public should not be concerned: robots will be a very useful tool for society.»
Our industrial robots have already begun to be delivered on a small scale and are working in factories, performing three typical tasks: transporting boxes, sorting goods, and loading and unloading materials.
Today, at this stand at the World Robotics Conference, we can see that in addition to the industrial sector, we are also showcasing products designed for commercial environments and emotional companionship in home settings. Looking ahead to the next ten years, we aim to advance simultaneously in these three areas.
In particular, we consider the home to be the ultimate setting for the application of humanoid robots. We hope to truly see humanoid robots in homes within the next decade, capable of performing tasks and providing companionship to people.
Of course, there are still many technical challenges to overcome, as well as issues related to policies, laws, regulations, and technological ethics. With government support and guidance, we are pushing for the creation of an integrated standard system to ensure that consumer products can operate safely and reliably in homes.
