Xi Jinping Celebrates 105 Years of the Communist Party: «the Greatest Epic» and Calls for a Modern Socialist China
During the recent 105th anniversary of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Chinese President Xi Jinping highlighted the historic journey of the political organization and urged its members to persevere in building a modern socialist China. According to the Xinhua news agency, the president stated that the 105 years of the Party constitute «the greatest epic» of the Chinese nation and urged its members to «remain steadfast in their convictions and work tirelessly to fulfill the Party’s missions in this new era and on this new expedition».
According to Xinhua, Xi recalled that the CPC was founded in 1921, during a period when China confronted poverty, foreign humiliation, and deep national weakness, and has now become the world’s largest ruling party. In this context, he reaffirmed the priority of achieving the goal of completing socialist modernization by the middle of this century, emphasizing: «Time waits for no one, nor does history». He also called for «the entire Party to adhere to the basic theory, the basic line, and the basic policies to ‘not be intimidated by passing clouds and to maintain our course despite wind and waves'», alongside «drawing closely on the people to create new historical achievements» and «revitalizing the entrepreneurial spirit to achieve results».
During his address, the president also warned of the complex international landscape and the challenges facing the country. Quoted by Xinhua, he stated: «China’s development is now in a period where strategic opportunities coexist with risks and challenges, and where uncertain and unpredictable factors are on the rise. We must always be prepared to endure the great tests of strong winds, furious waves, and even violent storms». He added that «as unprecedented changes accelerate, the world has entered a new era of turbulence and transformation, with humanity again at a crossroads of decisions», stressing: «We must continuously promote the building of a community with a shared future for humanity».
According to Xinhua, Xi dedicated a significant portion of his message to reinforcing internal Party discipline and combating corruption. In this regard, he highlighted the need to advance rigorous and comprehensive self-discipline within the CPC through sustained efforts to win «the tough, protracted, and unyielding battle against corruption». He also remarked: «It is imperative that all Party members never forget our original aspiration and founding mission, always remain modest, prudent, and hardworking, and have the courage and ability to continue our struggle».
The Xinhua agency reported that during the commemorative ceremony, Xi Jinping awarded the July 1 Medal, the highest honor of the Party, to exemplary members of the CPC. According to the latest Party census, the organization currently boasts nearly 101.29 million members and over 5.43 million grassroots organizations, establishing itself as the ruling party with the largest number of members globally.
