A report from the daily La Tercera revealed details obtained through the Transparency Law regarding the project by José A. Kast’s government, currently in the Senate, which aims to exempt property tax payments for seniors over 65 years old.
The information indicates that the Zapallar municipality (in the Valparaíso Region) will have the «highest average benefit per property nationwide,» with 1,080 properties collectively stopping the payment of $3,776,753,156 annually, translating to an estimated savings of $3,496,993 per property due to their high assessed values.
Other municipalities highlighted in the report include Canela with $2,682,242; Colina with $2,124,348; Cunco with $2,081,230; and Lo Barnechea with $2,055,248.
The report warns that across the country, the end of property taxes will lead to a drop in tax revenue by $182 billion. In net terms, the municipality with the largest number of ‘benefited’ properties is Las Condes, where 53,006 properties will stop paying $37,319,110,096 to the state each year, averaging savings of $704,054 per property.
