Former Minister Camila Vallejo criticized the José A. Kast administration for its silence on the recent UN report confirming Israel’s targeting of over 20,000 Palestinian children among other war crimes.
«Following the significant outcry over the alleged disappearance of Haitian children, which turned out to be unfounded, and the unfortunate political exploitation of the migrant children’s plight, the most disturbing aspect is this government’s deafening silence regarding the UN report affirming Israel’s infanticide against over 20,000 Palestinian children, including more than 64,000 dead and injured (UNICEF 2025), and this is merely considering those documented,» Vallejo expressed on her X social media account.
«In the face of the most horrific acts a state can commit against a people and its children, there are no half-measures; you are either against the genocide perpetrated by Israel or you are complicit,» emphasized the former spokesperson for La Moneda.
For Vallejo, «it’s no longer about ideological issues but rather ethical and moral ones; it concerns our humanity. In light of the greatest horror humanity currently faces, the Chilean state cannot remain silent,» she insisted.
In her post, the former minister shared an article from the Spanish newspaper El País, which discusses the UN report: «The Israeli army ended the lives of over 20,000 minors in two years, accounting for 30% of the total fatalities in the Gaza Strip, and used torture and sexual violence against them, according to a new United Nations report,” the report states.
According to the report, more than 20,000 Palestinian children died and over 44,000 were injured between October 2023 and October 2025, based on data cited by the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
The report also noted that children constitute nearly 30% of all fatalities in the occupied Palestinian territory. The investigation asserts that many perished in airstrikes involving high-explosive munitions with wide-ranging impact, with documented instances of being struck by drone fire, snipers, and other weaponry, primarily to the head or upper body.
Experts stated that the collected evidence reveals a pattern of behavior aimed at destroying the biological continuity and future of the Palestinian population in Gaza. They argued that the deliberate targeting of children is one of the key indicators of a specific intent to destroy, in whole or in part, the Palestinian group in that territory.
