The latest poll from La Cosa Nostra (LCN) presents a concerning picture for José Antonio Kast, as his average approval rating sits at just 3.2, on a scale from 1 (poor) to 7 (excellent), placing him at the historical bottom of government leaders, alongside dictator Augusto Pinochet.

According to the opinion study conducted in April 2026, with an average of 3.240, the current president is ranked 12th out of 13 evaluated leaders, narrowly surpassing Pinochet, who scores 3.208.

The survey by sociologist Alberto Mayol highlights the severity of Kast’s low ratings, as the score distribution reveals that 40% rate his performance as 1 (poor), while only 8% give him a 7 (excellent), indicating a clear pattern of rejection towards his administration.

Kast also shows a high variance of 0.85, an indicator that measures the spread of evaluations among different groups and represents the level of social disagreement.

Consequently, the far-right leader indicating a scenario of strong polarization.

The research indicates that Kast has a low rating and high variance, which structurally aligns him with historically contentious figures rather than with broadly accepted institutional leaders.

In terms of categorizing leaders based on their standings, both José Antonio Kast and dictator Augusto Pinochet exhibit profiles categorized under the hard-right spectrum.

Kast and Pinochet form a very close duo, states LCN.

53% Struggle to Make Ends Meet

Kast’s troubles extend beyond his approval ratings, reflecting a broader national and personal context.

When asked about their agreement with the statement regarding the current state of Chile: “I feel the country is disorganized and lacking a clear direction,” 61% responded that they are “strongly in agreement” or “somewhat in agreement,” while only 17% disagreed.

In response to the question of how difficult it is for their household to make ends meet, only 5% indicated it’s “very easy,” 26% found it “easy,” while 53% chose “difficult” and 16% said “very difficult.”

Declining Expectations for Kast’s Government

The study, which included 1,000 valid interviews conducted between April 10 and 28, 2026, revealed a general decline in expectations regarding Kast’s government across four main areas.

In terms of safety, a key point of Kast’s presidential campaign, 30% believe it will have significantly worsened by the end of his term.

A similar scenario emerges concerning the economy, with 38% expressing the belief it will significantly worsen.

Moreover, by the end of José Antonio Kast’s presidency, 36% expect that education will have significantly worsened, while 33% believe that healthcare will have significantly deteriorated.

Specifically in April, LCN noted “a transversal degradation of expectations regarding Kast’s performance, especially marked by the rise in individuals who believe these areas will deteriorate.

Sociologist Jaime Mayol posits that the study’s results could be seen as the “crystallization of a deteriorating trend in José Antonio Kast’s government.”
